Today was spent running around to prepare for our weekend
excursion to the coast. Piauí has the
shortest coast of all of the coastal states in Brazil. The coast is only 41 miles long and one of the
highlights is the Parnaíba River delta.
This weekend we are traveling with many teachers from Alex’s school in
order to visit their sister school in the city of Parnaíba, as well as enjoy some
relaxation at the beach. The
northeastern beaches are supposed to be some of the best in Brazil so we are
looking forward to exploring them!
Here is a cool article I found about the
Piauí coast.

We visited one class and were interviewed by the local media before Alex put us to work grading his tests. It was interesting to learn how students are
assessed, and to actually learn by doing as we evaluated their English skills. We ran some errands to prepare for the weekend
trip, including a stop at Lojas Americana, which means American store. Tami and
I were entertained to see what kinds of things were associated with our
country. I’m not sure it was a positive
reflection on U.S. culture.

The evening was spent packing and getting ready and Alex
picked us up at 8:30 for a 9PM departure from CCL. A little before 10 we headed on the road for
the 4-5 hours trip to Parnaíba.
