Waterfalls-TLC

Geared up to get soaked

When I found out that I would be placed in Brazil, there was one thing that I absolutely wanted to do, visit Iguazu Falls.  Iguazu Falls is one of the Seven Natural Wonders of the World and I have always wanted to see it in person.

I asked a few friends that had been there if it would be worth the extra time and money just to see it in person, and they all said yes.  So we planned it into the itinerary and I would agree 100%, it was worth every cent.

When we walked down to the first viewpoint the view was spectacular.  Then, as we walked along the waterfall trail, the view kept getting more and more impressive.  All of a sudden we were at the most outstanding view looking back at all of the waterfalls along the way.  We walked out along a see-through walkway with water rushing under our feet.  When we walked all the way out to the "Devil's Throat" I was awe-struck by the power and force of the water.  I felt pretty small and insignificant compared to the enormity of the falls.  As cliché as it sounds it was almost a religious experience standing there with water pounding all around us.

It was a little misty and rainy in the morning but as we got to the main part of the falls the sky cleared a bit.  Since a picture is worth a thousand words, here are a few.

Totally soaked

scary view

After walking along the waterfall trail and having lunch, we headed back through the park and stopped for a boat ride which took us right under one of the falls.  It was a wild experience!  There are some interesting animals in Iguazu Park, including the coatí, which are not at all shy.  There are also some beautiful butterflies.

so beautiful

We met up for dinner with some delightful girls from the U.K. and spent all night talking with them over caprihinas.
